Why apprentice?
The construction industry in Montana is booming. New home construction, shopping centers and industrial parks, energy infrastructure development and many other construction projects are ongoing throughout the state at a fast pace.
Despite this boom, builders and other construction employers are having a hard time hiring qualified workers in all the construction trades. There simply aren't enough people to fill all the jobs. This employment shortage has created the need to promote the opportunties available to young Montanans and others wanting to learn a skilled trade, or switch careers into the construction industry.
You want a job, and there are construction companies ready to hire you.
Apprenticeship education and training is the best way to get a foot in the door. An apprenticeship is a system for training and developing skilled craft workers. It combines working on-the-job under the supervision of skilled workers who have completed an apprenticeship program with related instruction in the classroom.
In an apprenticeship, a young worker will be introduced to the skills of a trade, experience the adjustment of putting in a full day's work, and learn how to advance steadily in both skills and earnings With this solid foundation, an apprenticeship leads to a skilled trade, a steady job and great benefits that will last a lifetime.
